Huawei recently teamed up with Switzerland based company Sirin Lab to develop a “Blockchain-ready” smartphone which will be compatible to run several blockchain applications.
Report adds that the talks are primary and no primary agreement has been signed. The china based smartphone maker is in talks to license Sirin Lab’s Operating system “Sirin OS” for their upcoming device. Sirin OS will make the smartphone to run blockchain based applications alongside Google’s Android OS.
Sirin Lab’s telegram group stated –
“Amazing meeting just concluded between Sirin Labs and Huawei. Among other things discussed was the possibility of cooperating together to bring block chain technology to the masses in a secure way.“
Moreover Sirin Labs in also working to bring their own blockchain compatible smartphone. As per Nimrod May, Sirin Labs spokesperson, the company is planning to sell its Finney smartphone after the Q2 of this year for $1000. They have already more than 25,000 preorder units.
This smartphone will come with an embedded cold crypto wallet along for allowing users to store more digital assets offline with a system that will automatically convert fiat money into digital tokens. Both of the companies declined to comment further over this.
It’s really interesting to see how major smartphone makers are stepping into cryptoready offerings. Also Huawei is the leading place holder in cloud computing, cyber security and telecoms gear. This would potentially bring the technology closer to the mass market also it could boost huawei’s sales overseas.
