It’s around two years since the launch of Raspberry Model B. After a long wait, Finally Raspberry PI foundation has launched the new Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ which aims to offer More Power, and a better & Faster Networking.
In Looks, the new Raspberry Model B+ model doesn’t have such noticeable changes. Also in terms of hardware, the new model doesn’t have dramatic change, But this one comes with improved features meant for a better networking. Raspberry Pi opted for Broadcom BCM2837B0 (Cortex-A53 ARMv8) 64 Bit chip, which is the same chip found in the original 3B. It ships with a slightly faster 1.4 GHz quad-core processor in comparison to the 1.2GHz processor of its predecessor. There’s a 1GB LPDDR2 SDRAM including the heat spreader and improved power integrity option which helps it to drop the CPU speed to 1.2 GHz when the temperature reaches above 70 degree Celsius. At the same time, voltage will decrease, which slows down temperature increases from there and staves off another throttle at 80 degrees.
The new Raspberry Model B+ has 2.4GHz and 5GHz IEEE 802.11.b/g/n/ac wireless LAN which ideal to use on newer 5GHz networks. Also the company confirmed that the wireless LAN is now certified as a radio module under FCC rules which will reduce the cost to commercially launch products based on this model.
As compared to its predecessor, the Bluetooth version has been updated to the newer Bluetooth version 4.2 . Now this model also supports Gigabit Ethernet over USB 2.0 connection that speeds up the maximum throughput by three time. Though you won’t see the full 1Gbps speed due to USB 2.0 limitations, the maximum throughput is 300 Mbps. The new B+ model also has Power-over-Ethernet with separate. Raspberry Pi will launch its own dedicated PoE HAT that will generate the 5V needed to power this B+ model.
Raspberry Pi B plus also includes improved PXE network, Full-size HDMI, 4 USB 2.0 ports, CSI camera port for connecting a Raspberry Pi camera, DSI display port for connecting a Raspberry Pi touchscreen display, 4-pole stereo output and composite video port, Micro SD port for loading your operating system and storing data. Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ is now available from the Raspberry Pi website for $35. Also The Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ will remain in production until at least January 2023.
