How to Root Lenovo K8 Plus – Unlock Bootloader, Flash TWRP Recovery & Magisk / SuperSU

Easiest Tutorial to Root Lenovo K8 Plus –

Hey friends, here today i’ll show you how to root Lenovo K8 plus properly. It’s more than a half of year since lenovo launched the K8 Plus. At that time, the device was one of the best smartphones under a budget segment of Rs. 10,000. From a long time, there was no development for this phone, it means so custom roms and even twrp recovery was not available for this device. But from the beginning of 2018, you might have noticed some developments have started surfacing online from XDA forums. Also some unofficial builds (lineage os) of lenovo k8+ plus custom roms are currently under development. Moreover Lenovo K8 plus and Lenovo K8 note will get official Oreo update with next few months.

I’ve got few requests to make a tutorial on rooting lenovo k8 plus. Also few people were getting a infamous error like FAILED (remote not allowed in locked state) while flashing custom recovery. Don’t worry, today i’ll show to how to root your lenovo k8+ (plus) step by step. Follow the guide properly, to avoid any kind of errors. While proceed only at your own risk, we won’t be responsible for any consequences. You may end up with a bricked device. Also this process will format or wipe your device’s internal storage, backup your important data and files.

Unlock Bootloader of Lenovo K8 Plus –

Unlocking bootloader is the first important and essential step while rooting your device. Backup all the data, this process will hard reset your mobile phone.

Step 1 –

Go to Settings > About Phone, scroll down and find Build Number. Tap on it 7 times and it’ll enable developer options.

Step 2 –

Now you’ll notice a new option called Developer Options in the settings menu of your phone. Open it.

Step 3 –

Now search and Click on OEM unlocking and Enable that.

Step 4  –

Download and install ADB and Fastboot drivers on your PC. Also install PDANet drivers from here.

Step 5 –

Switch off your phone. Make sure you’ve more than 60% charge. Now after switching off, press Power Button + Volume Down key together until you see AP Fastboot flash mode written on your display.

Step 6 –

Open Command Prompt on your windows PC. Now enter the following command “fastboot oem unlock” without quotes and hit enter. It’ll unlock the bootloader of your phone.

Root Lenovo K8 Plus –

After unlocking bootloader, you’ll need to flash a custom recovery – TWRP (Team Win Recovery Mode). Download the TWRP recovery .img file from here and keep it in your desktop or pc. Also download Magisk zip file from here, and keep it in the SD card storage of your phone.

Flashing TWRP Recovery –

Step 7 –

In the command prompt window enter the following command – “fastboot flash recovery  <drag and drop the downloaded .img file inside CMD> .” It should look like this. Now hit enter and it will flash TWRP recovery on your lenovo K8 plus.

Step 8 –

Now in the CMD window, type “fastboot boot <drag and drop the twrp .img file inside cmd” and hit enter. It’ll switch off your device.

Step 9 –  

For the very first time, you might get FAILED (remote not allowed in locked state) error while flashing twrp. So in this case, you have to repeat Step 6 and Step 7 again.

Step 10 – 

Following step 8, after a couple of seconds around 30-40 seconds, your lenovo k8 plus will automatically boot into TWRP recovery mode.

Click on install>select storage>sd card and click on the downloaded magisk zip. Swipe to flash it. After flashing reboot your device. You may wipe the device once using twrp. That’s all.

Now boot your device, (you will get red state, device unlocked etc warning on boot screen, ignore them) set it up. Install Magisk Manager APK from here. Yeaaay ! you’ve successfully rooted your lenovo k8 plus. Now flash xposed frameworks, or try some substratum themes or even flash your favorite custom roms (if available ).
