Whatsapp Received A Legal Notice For The Middle Finger Emoji.

On Tuesday whatsapp received a legal notice for the “middle finger” emoji. Gurmeet Singh, A advocate from Delhi sent a legal notice to the company for showing offense. As per the delhi-based advocate the usage of middle finger emoji on whatsapp is a lew gesture, and it’s offence in India.

Further more whatsapp is asked to remove the “middle finger” emoji within 15 days. And if the company doesn’t remove the emoji, the advocate will file civil or criminal cases against the social media giant.

According to Gurmeet Singh,the advocate, Emoji is a digital icon used to express emotion. And As per him using the middle finger emoji on whatsapp is not only a offense but a highly belligerent, invasive and obscene.

The advocate said in a court notice,”showing the middle finger is not only offensive but a highly belligerent, invasive, obscene, lewd gesture,As per the Indian Penal Code Sections 354 and 509, it is an offence to show obscene, lewd, offensive gestures to females. Use of a lewd, offensive, obscene gesture by anyone is hereby illegal also as aforesaid. As per section 6 of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act, 1994 showing of the middle finger is also an offence in Ireland,”.

“By offering to use middle finger emoji in your app, you (WhatsApp) are directly abetting the use of offensive, lewd, obscene gesture,” the notice said.

Whatsapp denied to comment of this legal matter. But we can expect the company will remove the middle finger emoji within 15 days through an App update.It’s quite interesting that not only whatsapp has that emoji, there are lots of other social networking application having the same emoji. what do you think, let us know your opinions below.
