Xiaomi and Microsoft Signed strategic MoU

Recently the China based company xiamoi has signed a strategic MoU with Microsoft to bring a Range of Devices including Cortana Powered Mi smart speaker, AI based services and laptop-type devices in order to make Xiaomi’s products and services better fit global market.

Xiaomi’s global senior VP and head of international business, Wang Xiang tweeted, “We have signed a Strategic MoU today with @Microsoft to collaborate in cloud support, AI and laptop-type devices. This will help accelerate our pace to bring more exciting products and services to our users, and also allow Microsoft to reach more users using Xiaomi products!”.

The company recently brought their footsteps into laptop type devices with the launch of windows based Mi Notebook. As part of the agreement, the two companies are going to work together in an attempt to bring more cutting-edge products and services to their respective users. As a part of Xiamoi-Microsoft MoU partnership, Microsoft’s support on joint marketing, channel support, and future product development could signify more production of laptop type devices from xiamoi in the upcoming days which will penetrate international markets.

Executive vice president of Microsoft’s Artificial Intelligence and Research Group,Dr.Harry Shum said,“Xiaomi is one of the most innovative companies in China, and it is becoming increasingly popular in various markets around the world. Microsoft’s unique strengths and experience in AI, as well as our products like Azure, will enable Xiaomi to develop more cutting-edge technology for everyone around the world.”

On behalf of Xiamoi, Wang Xiang also said,“Microsoft has been a great partner and we are delighted to see both companies deepening this relationship with this strategic MoU. Xiaomi’s mission is to deliver innovation to everyone around the world. By collaborating with Microsoft on multiple technology areas, Xiaomi will accelerate our pace to bring more exciting products and services to our users. At the same time, this partnership would allow Microsoft to reach more users around the world who are using Xiaomi products.”

Moreover Xiamoi will bring their own Artificial intelligence powered Mi AI speakers. The company will integrate Microsoft’s AI powered voice assistant cortana on its upcoming Mi AI speakers. Xiamoi has plans to take on the already existing AI powered smart speakers in the market like Google Home or Amazon’s Alexa.

These two companies has also plans to bring AI services which would benefit their respective users. As a part of collaboration, both of Microsoft and xiamoi will explore multiple cooperative projects based on a broad range of Microsoft AI technologies, such as Computer Vision, Speech, Natural Language Processing, Text Input, Conversational AI, Knowledge Graph and Search, as well as related Microsoft AI products and services, such as Bing, Edge, Cortana, XiaoIce, SwiftKey, Translator, Pix, Cognitive Services and Skype.

Not only this, Due to significant growth in recent days, Xiamoi will relay on Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform for data storage, bandwidth, computing and other cloud services in international markets. As this two companies have chosen to sign a memorandum, their partnership isn’t legally binding and it’s unclear if any financials are involved. This deal could point to how Xiaomi is looking to raise its game in the West, specifically in the US. Xiamoi and Microsoft have intention to focus AI, cloud computing and hardware which would make their platforms more user friendly. In a press release xiamoi states, they want to get benefit from “Microsoft’s globally leading technologies in cloud computing and AI.”
